Final Thoughts

SQL is one of the most valuable skills for a QA Engineer.

You don’t need to learn hundreds of SQL commands.

Start with the fundamentals:

SELECT → WHERE → AND/OR → ORDER BY → COUNT → GROUP BY → HAVING → JOIN → UPDATE → DELETE

Once these become comfortable, move toward more advanced queries and database-testing scenarios.

Remember:

A good QA Engineer doesn’t only verify what the user sees. A strong QA Engineer also understands what happens behind the application.

SQL helps you look behind the UI and validate the actual data.

If you are preparing for a QA interview, learning these SQL queries can also help you answer practical database-testing and scenario-based questions with confidence.

If you want to go deeper into SQL, the official database documentation is a useful reference. For example, the MySQL documentation explains how SELECT, WHERE, GROUP BY, HAVING, and other clauses work. Refer to this MySQL SELECT Documentation

Your SQL Practice Challenge

Before moving to advanced SQL, try answering these without looking at the solutions:

  1. Find all users from Pune.
  2. Find all active users.
  3. Find users older than 25.
  4. Find users whose names start with A.
  5. Count the total number of users.
  6. Find unique cities.
  7. Find users between age 25 and 30.
  8. Find duplicate email addresses.
  9. Find the oldest user.
  10. Find users who don’t have an email address.

Practice these queries yourself first.

The goal is not to memorize SQL.

The goal is to understand how SQL can help you test real applications.
